Rehab Virtual Reality

In collaboration with Cyberith, the manufacturers of the Virtualizer and Magnetbox, a virtual environment was developed that allows patients with walking impairments to take an interactive forest walk as a therapeutic measure. Furthermore, the software can be controlled remotely by a caregiver. Important information, such as statistics, can be accessed, the difficulty level can be adjusted to the patient, and scenarios can be customized. The combination of modern hardware and software, along with the resulting blend of visual impressions, physical activity, and gamification, supports patients in their healing process.

Process

Task

Many people, young and old, face challenges in remobilizing their legs – whether due to an accident or illness. The road back to mobility is often arduous, characterized by long walking exercises in mostly sterile and uninviting environments. The RehabVR project was developed to help precisely these people. By combining a virtual world with a specially designed physical device, rehabilitation becomes not only more effective but also more motivating.

Solution

Thanks to Cyberith's safety solutions, people can now exercise and train their legs safely and without fear of falls. The project involved the development of a three-dimensional virtual forest walk, allowing users to train in an engaging environment. An interactive feature was also integrated, enabling users to shoot a virtual bow and arrow, adding a playful element to the training. For trainers, the system allows them to analyze important data such as user speed and progress, enabling them to optimize the training process.
